Tis the season and there are few things are comforting as the smell of gingerbread biscuits coming out of the over. This simple cookie recipe is a tried and true family classic that you and your kids will love to bake, year after year.
175g (6oz) plain flour
1tsp baking powder
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
90g (3oz) soft brown sugar
50g (11/2oz) butter, cut into pieces
1 small egg
2 tbsp golden sugar
1. Preheat oven to 170°C/325°F/Gas Mark 3. Place the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and sugar into a mixing bowl. Rub the butter into the flour mixture with your fingertips. Make a hollow in the flour mixture and add the egg and golden syrup. Mix everything together until you have a big ball of dough.
2. Sprinkle some flour on the table and roll out the dough evenly until about 0.5 cm (1/4 inch) thick.
3. Cut out the panels for the house or use any of your favourite cookie cutters and place carefully onto baking trays lined with baking parchment. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until they are golden brown.
